A. Japan Shared House Organization is a general incorporated association that was established on December 1, 2006, by a group of several volunteer companies wishing to raise awareness of "shared houses" and improve the quality of its operation. Our main activities are information exchanges, study sessions, lectures, and social gatherings among operators.

A. In general, initial costs are required even for a shared house. In addition to the first month's rent, a contract administration fee and a deposit may be required as initial costs. Since the items and amounts of initial costs differ depending on the operator, please check directly with the operator when you inquire about the property. The initial costs of a shared house are almost always much lower than those of a regular rental property. Some properties offer a discount campaign for the initial costs or the first month's rent, so please check each property's campaign as well.
A. In addition to rent, management fees, common service fees, utilities fees, etc. may be charged depending on the property. The required fees vary depending on the property, so please check when you contact the property.
A. There are "private rooms" where one person uses one room, "room-sharing" where two or more people share one room, and "dormitory" where one room with multiple bunk beds is shared. In general, "room-sharing" or "dormitory" type rooms are shared by several people, so the rent is lower than that of a "private room.”
A. In most cases, dishes and cooking utensils are provided as common items.

A. Some shared houses may have age restrictions. Please check the age restrictions when inquiring about the property.

A. The selection process is much the same as for general rental properties. Each property's detail page includes various information such as interior and exterior photos, features of the shared house, and comments from the operator. If you find a property you are interested in, please contact the operator of a shared house by clicking the "Contact this property" button on the detail page.
